Arriving by cruise ship in Napier? Interested in getting away from the bustle of a town centre into the more remote side of NZ?
We’re pleased to offer Cruise Ship passengers a package that helps them get into real New Zealand wild spaces. The day starts with a 40 minute Bus journey from the Napier I-Site following the old trails of Maori and the early settlers up into inland Hawke’s Bay. Pass the old stage stop of Te Pohue and up to the saddle at the top of the range 1,000 meters above sea level. After changing at our base, you get to experience a seldom traveled New Zealand river gorge . Experience gentle whitewater, pleasant places to swim and float as you take in the scenery. Recommended for those 5 and older. After trip enjoy a light lunch as we bring you back to your boat with plenty of time before your ships departure.
The cost is $175 NZD adults and $155 NZD children under 12 years.Book Online

Frequently Asked Questions:
Will I make it back to the boat in time?
We’ve been offering this trip since we started our business, one of the most common question we are asked is about the timing. We guarantee we will get you back to your ship on time. We want to assure you that if your ship is in port for the appropriate amount of time for us to run the trip, we will be able to get you back into town with plenty of time before the boat departs.
Our ability to offer you the trip is dependent upon the amount of time in the port. Simply let us know what boat you are on what you are arriving in port and we can determine if we can bring you down our river. We want our guests to enjoy their experience, if there is not enough time for a trip we simply will not offer one. Tourism to Hawke’s Bay is important to us and we would much rather you take part in activities in comfort, rather than rushing your river experience so we can make a dollar.
Why is this trip less expensive than the one I can buy on the ship?
You are purchasing the trip directly from us. There are no agent fees increasing the price. Also, keep in mind that the trip that you might be able to purchase from the ship is not operated by Mohaka Rafting. This is an important distinction to make as the trips content will vary. You might want to ask:
- Where will we be getting changed?
- Where may I go to the washroom?
- What is the name of the Rafting Operator?
You need to bring:
- Clothes to change into after trip
- Any medication you might need (Please tell us about medical conditions that may arise during the trip)
- River gear (helmet, life jacket, fleece, splash jacket, wetsuit and river shoes)
- Photos of your trip
- Waterproof containers for your snack and medication
