Book your trip for next season today
The upper Mohaka expeditions are our most popular. Discover beautiful native forest, clear water, and natural thermal hot springs surrounded by New Zealand’s unique geography. Unwind in a natural thermal bath. Raft, float, swim, fish, go for a tramp or sit back and relax down the river on this 3 day trip (we can customise trip length).
You can start your adventure with a helicopter ride over the Kaweka Mountain Range. The length of your trip is all up to you. If you would like to slow the pace down or stick around and fish for a trophy trout, we can definitely accommodate. For those that cannot completely relax, we can help you keep in touch with your business using our satellite phone.
The possibilities are endless on these trips so please contact us to customise a trip to suit you. Shuttles by helicopter or vehicle, go fishing, walking, swimming, or relax – tell us what you prefer.
This trip is best rafted in the early season from October to December as water levels can get low in the upper Mohaka during the rest of the season. Please contact us for an update on water levels if you wish to raft this section after December.
Please email for costs and availability or check our online booking system for preset dates and costs.
We meet at our base to go over the expedition with you and ensure you have appropriate equipment. We then shuttle to the Helicopter pad. The helicopter will fly us over New Zealand wilderness to our put-in on the Mohaka River (Mangatanguru Confluence). You have lunch while the guides pump and pack the rafts. It is about 2 or 3 hours on the water to the thermal hot pools, and our first campsite. Guides will set up camp and prepare the evening meal. You can swim, fish, tramp, or just relax in the thermal pools.
Starts with a hearty breakfast then you are free to relax while the guides dismantle the camp and prepare the rafts. Once packed, we raft down through the Kaweka Forest Park to our next campsite. The scenery changes from mountainous Kaweka forest into exotic forest with occasional farmland. You can go exploring and enjoy some private time while the guides set up camp and cook.
The guides will prepare another delicious breakfast, and then we will continue to the takeout at the State Highway 5 Bridge. Lunch will be provided while guides pack the equipment for the 10 minute ride back to base. If we picked you up from your accommodation, we will drive you back.
