Helicopter in – rafting out. A four night, five day, wilderness escape for your enjoyment. Contact us to customise your trip.
Ideal for: Family groups (recommended for children over 9 years), business groups and tourists.
Relax on the crystal clear waters of one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. Enjoy a scenic helicopter ride into wild New Zealand where your Mohaka Rafting guide will lead you exclusively into the untamed gorges of the Ngaruroro river. Drink cold water straight from a tumbling waterfall, between picturesque rapids. See what most people never get to see. Experience the true face of wild New Zealand.
You set the pace. Tell us what you want and let us design the trip for you. Our ideal is to let you sleep in, then let you have a relaxing drift downstream to the next campsite. Setup early and drink in the natural beauty. This trip is very dependent on flow levels. Book early in the season to make sure you can seize this opportunity.
The Ngaruroro has great trout fishing that is only accessible by raft. But be aware that this river is not always raft-able. It is very water dependent and is best rafted in early summer or after rain.
This trip is seldom rafted due to the dependence on rain and river flows, don’t be disappointed if we have to change the trip to one of our others or need to cancel. However, it is an awesome raft trip in the right conditions so if we suggest a change to this river it will be a once in a life time experience.

Day one
The expedition starts from our base at Titiokura or at your accommodation in Napier, where we go over the expedition with clients and ensure they have appropriate equipment. We then have an hour shuttle to the Helicopter operator. The Helicopter will transfer us over a wilderness New Zealand landscape to our put-in on the Ngaruroro river. We have lunch and then clients rest, fish, swim, go for a walk or just admire the scenery while the guides prepare the night camp and evening meal.
Day two
After breakfast we raft from the top plateau to the next camp descending into the scenic Kaweka forest stopping for a picnic lunch on the way. We stop mid afternoon and set up camp and clients can rest, fish, swim, go for a walk our just admire the scenery while the guides prepare the night camp and evening meal.
Day three and four
We repeat day two but the scenery changes constantly from enclosed gorges to more open and higher ranges.
